I'm new to Shopify, and I have a client who sells perfume. They only have 12 different finished goods. They receive the scented liquid in bulk then fill up the bottles (5ml) and sell as the finished product. In a production situation, this would equate to a bill of materials with two components for a finished product called 'perfume'
1 x bottle
I am looking for an app which allows me to monitor the stock levels for the finished product, both online and if I am selling in person through the POS, and also, monitors stock levels for the raw materials. If I buy the scent in bulk, I would want to then record each time I consume 5ml, and have an alert (or an automatic PO) to order some more when my stock reaches a certain level. For the finished product, when the stock reaches a certain level, alert me to 'make some more' or raise an automatic works order. I know I can set the stock levels against the finished product, but from what i can tell, this is ignored if I am selling in person. What happens if the person in the shop doesn't have visibility of the stock levels?
Can anyone recommend an app that would cater for this? As we are only talking about 12 items, and not hundreds, I am looking for something lightweight that cover all of the scenarios described.
Many thanks in advance
Trunk can definitely help you track your raw materials and final product inventory. You can learn more about the feature here: http://bit.ly/trunkhelpbundles
The only thing it can't do yet however is the stock notifications. Learn more about Trunk @ https://trunkinventory.com
I'll check it out thanks ,but it is really important to be able to track the stock quantities of the raw materials. Its make to order, so when a finished good is sold, automatically reduce the stock, and send some kind of reorder notification (or better still raise a PO automatically)
How did you go mate? Did you find a product that suits your needs? I have the time to set something like this up now so might as well make the most of it!
We have a few clients that are using our Shopify & Airtable integration to accomplish the same objective - manage raw input inventory alongside the inventory of the finished product available to buy in Shopify. Happy to show you how it works in action. Also, check out our guide on how to manage and track Shopify inventory .
As far as I know, there is no native way to achieve such workflows directly in Shopify so you probably need an inventory management app that can handle BOM.
Basically, you need to:
To acquire the perfume raw materials, you should ideally issue a PO to your supplier. Once the liquid is received, you can create an assembly order to produce your bottles of perfume.
It is important, as you mentioned, to make sure whatever system you decide to go with has the ability to track both raw materials and finished goods inventory and cost.
For your information, Stock&Buy has built-in functionality to allows you to achieve the above workflow while syncing with Shopify, at an affordable price. You can read more about BOM support in Stock&Buy here: https://www.stockandbuy.com/help/manufacturing/
I hope you will find this useful. Please don't hesitate to drop me a line if you have any questions.
Hey @LHM1 -- I'm actually working on a product that helps organizing and facilitating inventory management, with specific features for produced goods. I'd love to learn about the specific painpoints you are experiencing and if the solution I'm building can help out. Want to shoot me an email at gary[at]explo.co?
Looking forward to it!
Links above are broken. To learn more about Trunk's bundling feature: https://go.trunkinventory.com/helpbundles
Furthermore, we now support low stock level alerts as well @ https://go.trunkinventory.com/help-low-stock
Were you able to find some success? I am looking for something exact. We run a clothing brand and we also do not stock finished goods inventory mainly due to the excessive number of SKUs that will build up owing to the various sizes, styles, and colors, etc., We only hold the raw materials (which is fabrics) and we keep creating new styles and catalog. However, we make the finished goods only when we receive the order. This way, we would be able to find out which products have good reach and then stock finished goods in those styles thereby optimizing our capital. Also, a particular raw material can be used in two different products in different quantities. A shirt will consume lesser raw material than a Full dress. So we need to have the autonomy to enter the quantity manually for every order.
Since it's been more than a year, I hope you should have found something.
Please, let me know, eagerly looking forward to know.
