I've been doing some research, and think I've found what I'm needing.

Scenario: When a customer buys ItemX they can add a AccessoryX. However, if the customer wants to buy AccessoryX separately they can do so, but at a higher price than if it's part of ItemX.

Right now I have AccessoryX as an item (which has variants) they can add on to the item. Currently using "Product Accessories" app for this. Since buying the item by itself is a higher price, I went in and created the AccessoryX again with the same SKU's. However as you know (and I didn't) that the SKU simply shows up twice, and inventory is tracked over 2 different items.

Would the Connected Inventory app be suited to resolve this issue? If I'm reading it right, it seems like it would do the job, but not 100% sure.

Anyone have other ideas I should research?

Hi

You could set up the product with an option like:

Option 1 - no accessory

Option 2 - includes accessory

Our bundle app will let you configure what the components are for the second variant so after it sells we change the order line to the component SKUs. This means your inventory is kept up to date across both products that contain the accessory. You also don't need to set up the identical SKU a second time as that is not best practice.

We also have the extra options of calculating the inventory level of the bundle based on how much component stock you have. So if you sell out of the accessory the bundle option for the product with accessory will also go out of stock.

Tom

Hi @productsync - Thank you for the reply. I've been looking at BundleUp for a few days now, and so far it seems to be what I'm looking for. Thank you.

And for what it's worth, your app seemed to fail my testing as well.

The search continues.

Hi @SyncConsult,

I recommend checking PickyStory's bundle deal.

With Bundles, you can upsell deals on your product pages or any other page in your store. You can create manual bundles or use automation bundles based on your store's sales history.
Examples:
  • Buy products A + B + C together
  • Buy products A + B + C for 10% off

That being said, you can sell ItemX and AccessoryX at their original price if bought individually and offer a discount if they are bought together through your bundles.

Furthermore, all sales through PickyStory are tracked on an individual product basis and synced with your Shopify inventory.

I need the item to be a product that people go to, not pick up via an upsell or other location.

I'm trying the product now, but I can't get the Live Chat to work, nor the Widget to place into any location on the site. (Which is kind of a moot point since I don't see a way to make the 'deal' an item of it's own.

Your app won't let items be set to zero in the bundles. I can't force people to buy parts of the bundle they don't need.

This is still open. I've not found an App that will do what I'm looking to do. Accepting Ideas.

I don't understand why it's so hard to find a functionality that honestly, should be pretty basic.

I don't get why going over Shopify's 3 item limit for options is so difficult. Can't any of these apps actually track inventory on the products they use in the bundles.

Sheesh.
