Had an email from Shopify saying the "Kit" app is being removed and will end on August 31st? is there an alternative to this or any reason why its being removed? Its such a handy little app' I use it all the time?

Hey, @Seal-Extrusions!

The app is being sunset as most of it's marketing capabilities are now built directly into your admin (it was built in a time when this wasn't the case). You should be able to find everything you need for marketing without the use of the app - I'd recommend walking through our help docs on how to utilize the marketing sections of your admin:

I agree.  I love this little app.  I’m a very small business and I use it for my Facebook posts.  It’s nice to be able to set up free posts for current subscribers.  And, it’s so easy to use.

@Brie Thanks for this - I'd be interested to know what you recommend to use as an alternative to the automated 'thank you' email that Kit sends out?  I can't see this in the marketing functionality on Shopify

@Brie Another function that I use often is the priority products list - I use it to set up FB posts for the week. The recent best sellers and slow moving inventory product groupings are also very useful.  Is there a similar function elsewhere in the marketing section?

Hi, all! 

@fmcl - You can find many alternatives to the thank you email in your admin - you can use the basic order confirmation email that Shopify sends out, however if this isn't satisfactory you can use Shopify Email manually or a different email marketing app of your choice for automations. 

@Seal-Extrusions - You can schedule email marketing updates via the same methods mentioned above, and to schedule ad campaigns you can do this all from the new Facebook channel. 

@AshlynD - I'm afraid "best sellers" and "slow moving inventory" groupings aren't available when creating an ad in the new Facebook channel, however it will help you to create an audience and you can always look at your Shopify Analytics to gain those same insights if you need them.

Hey, I'm in the same boat here, trying to find a replacement for Kit's 1st & 2nd email sequence. 

@Brie, I have been looking into Shopify Email and haven't been able to figure out how I could replicate what Kit is doing with those 2 emails. I don't want to use the order confirmation email as the personal thank-you that customers get through Kit. I dug into the possibility of customer segments and then using Shopify Email, but I don't see a clear path to just have new customers receive that same email. 

Can you elaborate on how specifically I could do that? These 2 emails have gotten a very positive response, as others have said on this thread, and I haven't found a similar setup either through Shopify Email, or through our email marketing app, Omnisend. The category of 'new customer/1st order' seems hard to create. 

Any advice on how to do so is much appreciated

Is there any chance of Kit app users voting on whether the app should be discontinued? Or, could we at least have a one year extension while Shopify duplicates Kit’s features?

Our New and Repeat Purchaser automations are available for all users (free plan available) and can send automatically to any subscribed customer after they make their first and second purchases. These emails are completely customizable and can even include your signature to give it a more personal touch or be expanded into a multi-email series for each thank you. 🙂

@Brie thanks for this - we don't want to use the order confirmation email as this email has a different purpose.  For us it's the Kit 'thank you' email that works very well.  As far as I can see with Shopify email there is no way to automate a thank you email as it looks like I have to pick specific subscribers, is this the case? thanks

Hey Everyone on this thread, I have an update on this, specifically in relation to the 'thank-you' email sequence in Kit. These are very important to our business. 

After digging into Shopify Email and not figuring out an actual replacement, I called Shopify and received a follow-up email. They said the same thing as was mentioned here, yet when I looked again, couldn't figure it out, and asked for specific clarification, they said it's actually NOT POSSIBLE! They pointed me to a paid 3rd party app instead. 


Pretty disappointing that they are removing this in the first place with no workaround, then tried to make it seem like there was one, and then asking me to pay for it. 


As a paying customer, I expect Shopify to not remove functionality without a replacement, so I would like to see an extension of the timeline on Kit until there is one.

@Brie Maybe you could give us some sort of guidance with this? My follow up email system is extremely important to me and I get a very good response rate from my customers from it regarding their experiences dealing with us and information on what they are using our products for, many send us pictures etc off the back of the follow up emails. So what do we do?

Shopify responded to me and said NO, they are not providing a solution.  They are just pulling functionality with no replacement. 

They only suggested paid alternatives in the form of email marketing solutions. Even those (outside of having to pay for something Shopify was providing), in my experience with Omnisend, won't replicate this feature because it's hard to create the exact customer segment 'new customer' or 'second time purchase' without lumping in a whole lot of others or repeating the email for every purchase. 


So they are leaving us hanging here

I'm trying to use Mailchimp automations to replace it, but doesn't works very well because it has a mandatory footer that makes email very impersonal.

Thanks for this  - its a shame.  One option would be to use something like Zapier to set up a link between Shopify and your gmail/email system so it triggers an email to send everytime someone purchases

I had the same question.  I would like to know if the marketing provided by Shopify includes sending 'thank you' letters.  They worked well.

Little bit disappointed that "Shopify" has not come forward with any constructive comments on this? One of the major points being the follow up email system which works with kit "Extremely" well will be lost and we have nothing to take its place once its removed? Yes there may be paid for App's that do something similar, but that is not the point, you have a tool here that works and works well, sometimes changing things for the sake of change is not what your customers want.

Very disappointed that Shopify and Kit can’t come together for the betterment of its users.  You don’t have anything available that is close to KIT.  It makes my life so much easier.  They send daily thank you emails to all of my customers who make a purchase which has helped a lot.  Again, very disappointed that SHOPIFY doesn’t care about its customers.
