I'm wondering if anyone else has figured this out... We use Klaviyo for our email marketing and recently I was tasked with revisiting our SMS marketing and getting to the bottom of why it isn't working. I found a few issues with the setup and resolved all of those so that everything is set up and should be working properly. Which it is, kind of.
Customers can now opt-in to SMS marketing during online checkout, but is it possible to allow them to do so when they check out in-store on our physical POS system? They can put in their phone number for receipts but that doesn't sign them up for SMS marketing.
Any suggestions? How did you fix this?
I have been banging my head against this issue on and off for a few weeks now.
I am so exhausted and surprised that there is not a simple connection here. If you do figure something out, please update.
I am working on an overly extensive non-sensical workaround to accomplish this. We have a few other extraneous requirements/intentions of our own that are adding to the complexity for me, but the SMS consent piece is the biggest stitch.
Let me know if you figure something out! We decided to give up and put up a sign with a QR code that takes shoppers to our subscribe page for now. We didn't want to add a 3rd party post-checkout pop-up or anything like that.
Hi! Did anyone ever get farther for this issue? Trying to set it up for one of my clients and it is a nightmare. I think we might have to literally have a sign up sheet or QR code at check out. Wild that there isn't a "sign up for Email + SMS marketing" check box option
Update on 8/20/24...I don't know about Klaviyo but running into this exact same issues with Yotpo SMS Bump.
Klaviyo doesn’t currently allow customers to opt-in for SMS directly through in-store POS systems. However, you can collect phone numbers at checkout and later ask for consent to SMS marketing through email follow-ups. Alternatively, you could integrate with a service that supports in-store SMS opt-ins. For instant communication, consider using push notifications via UnblockedBrands, which could notify customers directly after they opt in online or in-store.
