App reviews, troubleshooting, and recommendations
Hello, do you know if there is a way to migrate my customers login data from bigcommerce to shopify, so the users don't have to create their accounts again.

Hi Henry, can I take a look at your site? I'm afraid the short answer is it's not possible to migrate login data from bigcommerce to Shopify. The potential loss of customer accounts should be a big consideration whenever you're thinking of migrating platforms.
You will be able to migrate the accounts themselves (customer emails, addresses, marketing preferences, relationship to migrated orders, etc), but there's no way to migrate customer passwords between platforms (this is a good thing, being able to migrate passwords is a huge security red flag).
The correct process is to migrate the customer account data (minus passwords), and then send a password reset email encouraging customers to set up a "new" password. When I've worked with clients on this request in the past, I usually make the following recommendations.
I find it is especially effective if you time the email with a new product release or some other update bringing previous customers back to your site so this can double as a marketing push as well!
Keep in mind that even if they don't set up a new password, you will still have the customer's email and can include them in marketing materials as long as they haven't opted out in the past.
Good luck, and reach out if I can help at all!

Thank you very much for your response, that was very helpful. Quick question, Is it the same if i want to migrate the payment method too ?, like credit cards of every customer, is that posible ?
I'm glad it helped! If you don't mind, marking it as an 'Accepted Solution' really helps me out 🙂
Regarding migrating credit cards - do you manage subscriptions or have a B2B business? Shopify only supports credit card vaulting for B2B, and third party partners like Recharge and Ordergroove can host credit cards and managed your subscriptions through Shopify.
If you are going to use Shopify Payments, Shop Pay is a great solution that uses saved credit cards (saved and available across all stores using Shopify Payments), rather than individual businesses storing and using saved credit cards of their customers.
Basically when a customer is checking out, they enter their phone number to receive a code, and then will have a 1-step checkout experience on your store without the headache of you vaulting their card or being responsible for PCI data.
Hello @henry_merchan,
In fact, there is a way to bypass "set a new password" for all customers. The idea is to implement something like a partial single-sign-on for your new store, that will make a request to the old store to check if the login works and if it works - then the app should update the password at the Shopify end based on a fact that it worked for Bigcommerce customer's account. I've done a trick for multiple-direction migrations, but it requires custom coding.
Migrating cards would be almost impossible in terms of the fact that you are moving from one SAAS to another. If it was the migration between Magento and Woocommerce and the payment provider is the same - then yes, it's possible.
Best regards,
Anastasia
