App reviews, troubleshooting, and recommendations
Does anyone know if there is an app for Shopify that will allow us to have multiple variants pulling from the same inventory item. We sell craft vinyl in 12”X 12” sheets, 1 yard lengths (equivalent to 3 sheets) and multiple yard lengths of the customer’s choosing. All of these variants pull from the same master roll as we do not want to have inventory stock for each variant. At the moment we are having to manually adjust our inventory daily. Right now we accept our stock in as sheets and subtract any yardage sold from the sheet quantity. Any info would be very helpful. Thank you!
Hi
You could set up variations for each product and then bundle up the packs to the main SKU.
For example:
Variation 1 - SKU: ABC
Variation 2 - SKU: ABC x 10
Variation 3 - SKU: ABC x 30
Our bundle app will let you connect up all your products to correct SKUs and we then update their inventory based on the component stock level. So in above example variations would update if product component changes.
We also have the additional option of unbundling orders made for a bundled product into the component SKUs post purchase. This way the order lines are only for components and can be fulfilled as per normal.
If you need help in setting up and testing please get in touch. You can also find our guide here:

Hi @vinylcs ,
You Need to have a base Unit product, i.e in your case 12”X 12” sheets, then other like 1 yard would become 3x base unit. As these I feel are related products they can be variants of a single product in shopify. If not then separate products is also fine.
Please note : This base unit should also be some definite multiple of master role.
Next in order to connect the inventory and automatically deduct inventory in base unit you need an app like this, it's a free app and you can create unlimited connected inventory products.
Next in app, just select the bigger unit products and in composition map it to base unit product appropriately. Repeat this process for every product.
When the customer order will come app will modify the order as per your composition rules.
Hope this helps!
