Need Help with Shopify Approval of our New App

We have developed an app that allows merchants to overlay images and text on their product images. It doesn't watermark the image, it simply overlays using CSS so the product image remains clean.

The problem we are facing is that installation requires the merchant (or us) to add a class the to <IMG> tag for the overlays to show up on the collections & product pages. However Shopify is saying we need the installation to not require code changes. My developers say this isn't possible because different themes have varying code in the <IMG> tags. 

Has anyone has experience with this type of issue and or can think of any possible work around?
