App reviews, troubleshooting, and recommendations
Hi there, I was just wondering who is having the same issue as mine. My new IPhone 14 doesn’t see and scan barcodes of the products. Basically no action is happening as soon as I’m trying to use camera through the app to read barcodes, it’s very frustrating! I was trying everything to solve the issue- in the iPhone settings “scan barcode” button is on, I deleted app and setting it up again, nothing helps. Another random scanning apps downloaded from Apple Store just working fine. I never had problems with iPhone 12, I have concerns may be it’s because of improved camera they did with new IPhone and it doesn’t cooperate with Shopify app? Please help!
I’m having a similar problem after updating the software on my iPhone 13. To me it seems as if Shopify’s in-app scanner is no longer able to focus at the distance needed to scan the barcode. I used to have no problem and now it won’t scan at all. The focal length is off. If I hold the item close enough to scan, it’s too blurry. But when I hold it far enough away to be in focus, it’s too far away to recognize. I really hope that they address this issue.
It’s good to know that it’s not only my problem. How can we report to Shopify so that they can look into that problem with their scan?
There is an issue with some apps using the camera on iPhone 14 (possibly relating to the Pro version) that developers might need to address themselves. Shopify please look into this. We have top of the range iPhone 14 Pro's and the barcode experience is terrible. It is the same in some other apps that scan for barcodes etc - the UK lottery app (using scandit) suffers the same. From what I can tell it's to do with the app selecting (or not) the ultra-wide camera as a default - but I say that without really knowing what I am talking about - just guessing.
Extremely frustrated with this as well! Can I asked what third party app you got to work?
I have the IPhone 14
No third party. It was just random scanning app not connected to Shopify. I just checked to make sure that my iPhone is not faulty and that it’s Shopify scan issue not my IPhone. Just download any scanning app from Apple Store and see that it is scanning barcodes just fine.
My business partner has no problem scanning the same barcodes with her iPhone. She’s resisting upgrading her iOS software because of the issue.
I was able to scan barcodes in both the Shopify POS app and the Shopify inventory app just fine with my iPhone 13. With my new iPhone 14 the POS app will not focus on the Shopify barcodes at close range but it scans very well in the Shopify app itself. Super frustrating not being able to scan product barcodes and check customers out quickly as should be possible with barcodes.
seems like more of a development issue than an iPhone problem. Shopify developers please investigate.
Are you still having issues with this?
I can scan the barcodes fine with my ipad but not with my iphone 13 pro. It’s a joke.
I feel like this no longer works to force you to buy an expensive barcode scanner.
Yes, it hasn’t been fixed but I am in contact with them and sending them videos and screenshots. It may be helpful if more of us report it to them via the POS app. In the POS app, click the bottom icon “menu” then select “support” and “report a bug”. They got back to me right away. Let’s try to bring more attention to this issue!
April 2024 and still not fixed! I wrapped up my 2023 show season early December, and while it was finicky, it did scan most of the time. I’ve now spent my entire spring 2024 show season having to type in bar code/sku numbers to check people out. The POS app on my iPad will not scan barcodes that worked fine before. NOT. ONE. BARCODE!! I swear i am about to switch to Square.
I noticed that it has now been resolved on my iphone pro 13. All of a sudden, after such a ling time, I can scan again.
Imagine your iPhone camera as a person trying to focus on a blurry object. Sometimes, it just needs a little help to see things clearly.
A smudge or fingerprint can make it hard for the camera to focus. Give the lens a gentle wipe with a soft cloth.
Is it too dark or too bright? The camera might struggle to focus in extreme lighting conditions. Try moving to a place with better lighting.
Sometimes, a simple restart can fix minor glitches. Close the camera app and reopen it.
Make sure your iPhone's software is up-to-date. Updates often include bug fixes and improvements.
If nothing else works, it might be a hardware issue. You could try taking your iPhone to an Apple Store or authorized repair center for a check-up.
