We are looking for a solution to add an installment option to our cart. Among the Apps we searched in the Shopify App store, none had the option to pay the amount from random products in the cart. How is this made possible in Shopify?
I think your best option is to add Klarna https://www.klarna.com/us/business/platforms-and-partners/shopify/. They will handle installment as a loan.
Shopify generally does not allow alternative payment apps to be public in the app store. Klarna does have an integration available as a private app. More info available at: https://x.klarnacdn.net/plugins/Klarna%20Payments%20on%20Shopify%20-%20Merchant%20Guide.pdf
Not too sure - See this step by step process https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/payments/shopify-payments/local-payment-methods/klarna. I had customers who used the same before.
Klarna Payments on Shopify is available as a local payment method within Shopify Payments for some regions (as listed at https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/payments/shopify-payments/local-payment-methods/klarna) and also as an alternative payment method for more regions (per https://x.klarnacdn.net/plugins/Klarna%20Payments%20on%20Shopify%20-%20Merchant%20Guide.pdf)
Hi @gugalucio ,
Klarna is available for Shopify for US as an alternative payment method (but not as a local payment method within Shopify Payments for US). More info about options at https://www.klarna.com/us/ and if interested, you can sign up for Klarna API credentials at https://eu.portal.klarna.com/signup?products=kp&plugin=ShopifyHPP&platform=shopify
To create an account it is asked for a myriad of information like CEO name, addresses and others, is there an easier way to test the App?
Hi again @gugalucio ,
You can sign up for a free test account for Klarna API test credentials at https://developers.klarna.com/documentation/testing-environment/
(the only data required is an email)
Once you have Klarna API test credentials, you can integrate with the Shopify Klarna Payments install wizard (https://www.klarnapayments.com/install); on the 2nd step (Authenticate Klarna API Credentials), expand the section to check the checkbox for "Test mode (do not check when using production Klarna API credentials)"
is it possible to offer 2, 3 and 4 installments?
Also, is it always the same %fee and tax on top of each sale, where can I find the documentation about fees?
hi @gugalucio ,
Klarna API test credentials are not configurable for each merchant, but your live credentials would be configured based on your merchant-specific Klarna contract. You can review the regional payment options at the Klarna demo store: https://www.klarna.com/demo
Regional specific payment options and fees are documented on our website: klarna.com
(For the US, the payment option is 4 installments.)
I still have some questions:
When the user chose the Klarna payment method, do they have to create an account with Klarna?
What happens with the user credit score, is there a credit check?
Who manages and monitors all merchant transactions? Klarna or my payment gateway?
How do Refunds work based on each of the 3 payment options?
Hi again @gugalucio ,
Regarding a customer account with Klarna, Klarna does store customer information but the customer does not have to create an account. More information available at: https://www.klarna.com/us/customer-service/csc/account-personal-details/
Regarding a credit check, please see: https://www.klarna.com/us/customer-service/klarna-perform-credit-check/
Regarding merchant transactions for Klarna orders placed in a Shopify store, the merchant continues to do all their order management within the Shopify store admin, and the Klarna Payments integration on Shopify will update the Klarna order data based on the Shopify updates, as documented at: https://x.klarnacdn.net/plugins/Klarna%20Payments%20on%20Shopify%20-%20Merchant%20Guide.pdf
Regarding refunds, similar to order fulfillment or cancellations, when a Shopify order is refunded in the Shopify store admin, the Klarna Payments integration on Shopify will update Klarna. More information for customers about refunds at: https://www.klarna.com/us/customer-service/csc/refunds/
Klarna Payments is available in many regions, regional specific information available at https://www.klarna.com/.
Klarna Payments accepts orders only for customer billing addresses in the
markets that match the store base currency (as documented at https://x.klarnacdn.net/plugins/Klarna%20Payments%20on%20Shopify%20-%20Merchant%20Guide.pdf)
Since Klarna Payments integration is an alternative payment method integration for Shopify, Shopify limits Klarna Payments, and all alternative payments methods, to
always using only the store’s base currency, per: https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/payments/shopify-payments/multi-currency/conversions#shopify-paym...
You can also do this through most gateways with a private app, splitting up the payment into installments or a reoccuring basis, then expire it when done.
To remain compliant with Shopify you are pushing to full amount base into your store so they get their % .. but then your installments come out of the schedule that is set up.
We did this for https://www.ddpyoga.com for certain products and worked with Shopify Partner support to make sure it was done according to their rules.

Hi @gugalucio Great news that will help to show the installments at your store.
The Parcelamento - Installments APP now supports all currencies.
But you need a gateway/installments processor system to work, like Klarna , Afterpay, Square, Four, Splitit, Affirm, Sezzle, QuadPay and others.
The Parcelamento - Installments app works with all of them if you don't charge interest.
The Parcelamento - Installments app helps to show that info, that you accept installments and the price divided at your store.
Making the products more accessible to your customers and helping to increase the average order value of your sales.
But you still need a service who will process the Installments, like the ones I mentioned above.
If you have any questions about the app, you can contact here:
Or through the APP Page:
