Product Category not supported as a filter type in "Search & Discovery" app

The "Search & Discovery" app (A shopify-developed app) does not seem to allow filtering by Product Category, only Product Type - even though Shopify seems to encourage the use of Product Category over Product Type in it's documentation - see: https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/products/details/product-type#product-category-and-product-types.

Is support for filtering by Product Category coming to the Search & Discovery app?

As a work-around you can use, say Flow to duplicate product category into a metafield or a tag which you can then use for filtering
