App reviews, troubleshooting, and recommendations
Hi everyone,
I’m currently transitioning away from a traditional inventory management system that includes purchase orders and receiving, and I’m considering using Shopify as my primary inventory system. However, I’ve found that Shopify lacks several key features out of the box.
I’m torn between moving to a more comprehensive inventory platform like Linnworks or staying with Shopify and using third-party apps to fill the gaps.
Specifically, I’m looking for a purchase order system that allows me to:
Scan barcodes to create and receive POs in one step or two steps
Generate actual purchase orders within Shopify (not just add quantities)
Link received inventory to invoices and export data to QuickBooks
Track detailed item history (receiving, adjustments, shrinkage, audits, etc.)
Apps like Stocky haven’t worked well for me, and StockSavvy doesn’t fully meet my needs since it doesn’t create purchase orders or proper receiving records—it only adjusts quantities.
If anyone has a recommendation for an app that can handle all or most of these requirements, I’d really appreciate it. I’ll also be posting about other functionalities I’m looking for soon.
Thanks in advance!
I’ve worked with businesses navigating this exact transition and know how to bridge the gaps in Shopify with scalable, integrated solutions. My experience ensures your inventory, purchasing, and accounting processes stay aligned without sacrificing control or efficiency.
Are you leaning more toward optimizing Shopify or switching to something like Linnworks?
Hi Bobby
that's what i am debating, either use shopify as my base inventory and add apps to fill n the gaps , or go with a company similar to Linnworks
i been on that system since 2019 till this January, they stop updating specific API categories related to my business, so i switch to another company, i took my time to do the move and they added many custom functionalities, and after several months, we went live on January , and since than notihing was working right, nightmare! , Linnworks seems stable, however they do not have many customers in my industry (brand name shoes) and they are not cheap and they require a one year contract, so i am was thinking to see if shopify in addition of some apps, will do what i need, since i must leave my current system ASAP, i do not want to rush into signing with Linnworks
so this is what i was thinking to do
Inventory - Shopify
Managing my Metafileds - Metafiled guro
Selling Channels - Sedcommerce - cost $300
POS - Using either Lighspeed or Shopify Pos
Purchase Order - currently using stock savvy - not happy with them cost $40
Reports - i need some goo d report system that can offer me matrix view for products sold/oh/received - need to find an app
Importing new Products Via excel - Matrixify - they are ok but cost $50
Integration with my QB - i need to record sales and purchases , COGS into my QB i assume intuit will have an app , but i need also to import products received into shopify
so i assume i would probably need more apps or tools
I completely understand the challenges you're facing with your current setup. Shopify can definitely serve as a solid foundation, and with the right apps and integrations, it can handle your inventory, POs, and reporting needs effectively.
Here’s how i will do it
O System: I can find the right tools for barcode scanning, automated PO creation, and linking inventory to invoices, solving the limitations you're facing with StockSavvy.
QuickBooks Integration: I’ll ensure your Shopify and QuickBooks work together seamlessly, syncing sales, purchases, and COGS without manual entry.
Reporting: I’ll recommend or build a reporting solution tailored to give you a matrix view of products sold, ordered, and received, helping streamline decision-making.
With my expertise, I can avoid common pitfalls and set up a system that works for your unique needs. Would you like to discuss how we can make this transition smooth and efficient?
