purchasing apps versus monthly payment?

just starting a shopify store.  was previously on magento where most extensions/apps you could purchase for a one-time fee.  In looking at app store, all of the apps I have looked at only have a monthly fee option - is that pretty much the norm?  thank you in advance for your input

Yes, that's pretty normal on Shopify, almost all apps you can find on Shopify Apps have a monthly fee.

Pricing model can be different from apps to apps but usually are tiered. Plans could be:

• "features based":
• "volume based" (e.g. number of orders, number of customers, total pageviews)
• "plan based"(eg. Shopify Advanced, Shopify Plus etc.)
• or a mix of everything

Some of them offer discounts if you pay annually.
