App reviews, troubleshooting, and recommendations
Long time ago I closed my store definitely and my domain, recently I read in my mail that i will have to pay at the end of this August the domain fee that I already close and unrenewable. How can you help me to fix that cause I don't have no more store.
Hey, @juniork17!
This is Summer from the Social Care team at Shopify. Welcome to Shopify Community! I'm glad to help you with your domain concern and discuss how this can be resolved.
From what you are describing, it sounds like the domain in your closed store still has the auto-renew setting enabled. Domains have an auto-renew setting to avoid any store downtime caused by domain expirations. The domain will continue to renew and incur the annual fee when auto-renew is still enabled even if the store is already closed. If you bought this domain from Shopify and it has not renewed yet, you still have a way to prevent the renewal and that is to access your Shopify admin and disable the auto-renew setting.
We can look into providing temporary admin access if you closed your store by following the steps on this page and your account does not have any outstanding invoices. Our support team can check your account and see if this is possible. You may visit https://bit.ly/3cJkx8V and log in to your account to create a support request.
If your account has an outstanding invoice, this needs to be settled to gain access to the admin. You can simply log in to your Shopify admin where you will be prompted to settle the unpaid bill. Once this is settled, you can choose a plan to reactivate the store and access the admin. If you no longer wish to continue with the store, you may immediately close it by following the steps on this page after disabling auto-renew. We don't provide refunds as per our Terms of Service but we can look into possibly making an exemption and providing a refund in this situation. To inquire about a possible refund, you may also create a support request through https://bit.ly/3cJkx8V.
Once you are logged in to your Shopify admin, you may disable auto-renew with the following steps:
Please be aware that disabling auto-renew will allow the domain to expire and make it available to be purchased by somebody else. If you wish to use the Shopify domain on another platform, you may transfer your domain to another domain host, provided that it's been more than 60 days since the domain was purchased.
If you bought the domain from a third-party host, you will need to contact their support team for assistance in canceling the domain.
Should you ever think about continuing your online business and completely reactivating your Shopify store, please know that we are here to help. Don't hesitate to reach out again if you have questions or need assistance with your store!
