App reviews, troubleshooting, and recommendations
Hi I am using Search and Discovery app to display related and complementary products on my store.
For accessories I use it to show compatible parent products. Unfortunately I've stumbled upon a big (in my opinion) problem - if the product is already in your cart, it disappears from any recommendations.
So real life scenario is that someone has "Bread" in their cart and look for accessories.
If they open "Jelly" page, they will see related/compatible products usually, which will include Bread. However if Bread is already in their cart, then it's not shown as a compatible product for Jelly. Meaning a customer is confused, because the product in their cart is Bread, they are browsing Jelly product with "put Jelly on Bread" in the description, yet the section with compatible products only shows Peanut Butter.
Is it a theme issue or Shopify / app logic?
I've spent hours trying to figure out why the Related Products I was selecting were not showing up on a product page. You're 100% correct that if it's already in a customers cart, it doesn't show up in the related section on any product page. This of course makes no sense because I want to make the Related items very specific to that product. But when one of them doesn't show up, Shopify just throws in some random product and considers it "related". Someone didn't put much thought in that and I can't figure out any work around.
