Shopcodes app stating 'Shopcodes is outdated'

Hey everyone!

Hoping some bright spark out there can help on this chilly Scottish afternoon!

This past few days, I have noticed that I cannot create a Shopcode (QR code) for a product via my normal method of clicking 'more actions' on the product and 'create a Shopcode'.

Further still, when I click on the app itself on the left bar underneath apps, a page loads stating 'Shopcodes is outdated' followed by a message stating 'this app is outdated and will no longer function after Wednesday Sept 6th 2023'. Contact the apps developer to update the app'. See pic attached below.

As this is an important app, I am hoping someone can update me if they have any information on this message please?

With kindest regards

Chris

Hi, @RetroChris!

Welcome to Shopify Community.

Thank you for sharing your questions with our network and reaching out for advice. For our future readers, when using an app with this message it is imperative that you connect directly with the app's developer to discuss your concerns.

With that being said, the Shopcodes app is developed and supported by Shopify so you're in absolutely the right place.

To give you some context, when we update our softwares we conduct API health checks on our apps to ensure they comply with our updated systems and remain compatible. This health check is conducted on every single live app, including ones developed and managed by our internal teams.

This deadline is provided to ensure our offerings remain compatible and workable, and is met if there is a proven need for the app's functionality. If a strategic decision is made to sunset the app instead, that will typically be communicated by our team via email to impacted users or on our announcements page

In the meantime, please connect directly with our Support team for further troubleshooting and insight into the app's health check.

Warm regards,

Olivia | Social Care @ Shopify

Hi Olivia!

Thank-you for your reply.

I have also been doing some digging around, and according to this forum page it appears many people are experiencing the same problem that an app is not loading (not necessarily just Shopcodes app either), and then showing an 'outdated' warning with the same 6th September end date. You can check it here: https://github.com/Shopify/shopify-app-bridge/issues/160

Having a quick glance, it appears people seem to believe that a slow load time of the app is causing this message.

Wondering if you have any tips? I am relatively new to Shopify, so am not expert by any means - so really, really appreciate your help.

Kindest regards,

Chris

Thank you for following up again, @RetroChris!

In fact as of January 20th, 2023 we do have updated communications regarding this error that is being presented across several apps in our App Store.

While this messaging is directed more at the Partners and Developers of the apps, this can still provide further context for other merchants like you that are impacted.

To support Shopify admin’s migration to a new unified domain—admin.shopify.com—embedded apps were required to make updates, such as moving to App Bridge 3.0, to ensure the best merchant experience.

For apps that have not yet made these required updates, a blocking error message will be presented upon app load. However, this error message was erroneously presented for apps that had already been updated but were loading slowly.

We’re working on a resolution that will provide clearer error messaging, and prevent it from being shown erroneously for apps that have made the required updates.

In your case, there's no further action you need to take while we work to resolve this. I do hope that helps answer some of your questions and I'd be glad to keep this conversation going.

Warm regards,
