App reviews, troubleshooting, and recommendations
In the Admin -> inventory list view I see all of my archived products as missing inventory. It makes no sense to me why archived products are ever shown anywhere in the inventory list.
Is there any way to filter the inventory list view in such a way as to hide archived items completely?
I really don't understand shopify's strange (almost useless) implementation of archived items. Why would I archive something but still want to see it everywhere in the app? The whole purpose of managing an inventory list is to see what you are missing and need more of. If a product is archived, it stand to reason that it is no longer managed.

I have contacted the shopify support team and they mentioned adding tags to filter out the inventory view? It's not a solution to add tags to filter the inventory view. This means I would have to manually archive items but also keep up with what I have tagged also as "Archived". This is a terrible idea and frankly a good way to lose track of stock.
Also, what is this forum for if your response to problems is to just direct paying customers to support?
The archive feature in shopify does not do what most people think it should. Just google it, there are tons of people with similar issues with the way this software handles archived products, which is basically not at all. Archiving a product does nothing other than flag it as archived.
I agree, Archived products showing in the inventory tab is super annoying.
When I want to transfer products I have to scroll through all these old products.
Anyway this can be resolved? besides tagging.
At this stage im contemplating just deleting products rather than archiving.
I know it's been awhile, so you may not need this any longer, but here's a slightly easier workaround I found:
Archived items seem to no longer be active on any sales channel, so you can use the 'Availability' filter in the inventory view and set it to whichever channel has all of your products on it (for me it's my POS, since I don't carry everything online that I do in-store, but I do carry all items I have in inventory in-store). This filtered out all of the archived items for me.
Hope that helps! Wish we didn't all have to constantly come up with dumb workarounds to things that should be built-in functionality to Shopify.
Good tip! Thank you.
Thank you for this suggestion!!!
Any luck? I'm having the same issue
I know it's been some time so this might not help you now, but here's a slightly easier workaround that worked for me:

I agree that (not unlike many aspects of Shopify functionality), the way their archive feature functions is useless. I did finally find a relatively easy workaround for this particular issue though, so I wanted to share.

You can disable the track quantity field via bulk editor for all archived products.
While useful to know, the problem was about not seeing archived products in the inventory list.

Not sure it can help, but I can across a request related to creating Related Product or Recommended Product and the search was not straight forward, with all the draft, active and archived products.
The best solution I found was to use an "advanced search" method, such as:
status:active AND title:<product string>
<product string> is all you know about your product, i.e white linen shirt, and use quote for you want only 'white linen' (white linen without quote will probably return white shirt as well - also use * at the end may help.
Shopify has a shirt syntax reference https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/products/searching-filtering
Whilst it is less natural that basic search, it provides great results in this use case.
