App reviews, troubleshooting, and recommendations
Hi.
In the document provided at https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/payments/shopify-payments/faq,
it states that transactions below $0.50 are not allowed when using Shopify Payments.
However, It was able to successfully process a transaction of $0, whether it was for a subscription or a regular transaction.
Is this the correct behavior?
Is there a possibility that this will no longer be allowed in the future?
thanks

Hello,
This is correct behavior. It really means you can't process between $0.01 and $0.50
Free orders don't need to be payment processed whereas valued orders do and so would incur a processing fee.

Why can't they be processed? Is it impossible to ping the bank to ensure the card is a valid payment type specifically for a subscription? Otherwise, this ends up being a huge issue for retailers as an anticipated subscription renewal will fail due to card type. The end result is we send free product to a customer - which ends up being a scam because they never intended to enter a subscription.
