Translate shopify app

I'm creating an app and I want it to be translated into both Portuguese and English. I've already used i18n to externalize the strings and everything, but my only problem is retrieving the Shopify admin's language. I tried to request it through GraphQL with "shopLocales" and attempted to list it, but Shopify denied it. On another attempt, I used the Rest API to return the shop data and tried again to list it, but without success. What is the correct way to retrieve the language that the Shopify admin is using?
