We have recently run into an issue where our international shipping calculation (via FlavorCloud) is not being done because we have products setup in different shipping profiles. We have several shipping profiles set up for flat rates in order to use flat rate boxes because shopify does not allow for dimensional weight to be added to products, and our backpacks cost less in weight that the large box we need to send them in. Shopify seems to add the weights together for domestic shipping for orders with products from multiple profiles, although it just charges the customer the amount and does not let them choose a carrier. But for international orders, Shopify will not even access the FlavorCloud app for shipping and duty calculation. It looks to be defaulting to the domestic total shipping cost, and charging the customer that.
In all the shipping profiles I have international zones set up, all of which have the FlavorCloud rates added to them. I've tried several different combinations of rates and zones, none of which worked. I've even tried deleting all the domestic zones and rates from the profiles just to try and isolate the issue, and the FlavorCloud calculation is still not done.
Shopify support says that this is a FlavorCloud problem, but it seems that the root of this is several things that Shopify has neglected to add or fix. It seems like there are several solutions that could fix this: an IF statement to push all international orders straight to FC with product weights and ignore the flat rate; allow products to be put in multiple profiles (then I could have one international profile and the separate domestic ones); a way to add dimensional weights to products; ability to default different package sizes to different products.
At this point it looks like I have two options. Increase the product weight of the packs to cover the cost of the larger box, and hope that people that are farther away from us are not put off from the shipping cost. Or I try and find another app that adds dimensional weight to the products that also works with our international shipper FlavorCloud.
So I'm curious if anyone has found a work around for this issue or can recommend another app to fix this that will work with FlavorCloud?
