What is the most effective way to distribute a beta app to select users?

I'm currently working with a team to build a shiny new Shopify App and we'd like to be able to work with a small group of beta testers to ensure it really hits the mark before we launch publicly. What is the best method for distributing our app to 10-20 hand-selected Shopify stores so that we can collect feedback and fix bugs prior to a GA release?

Once your app is approved, you can delist it from the app store and just send the installation link to a closed number of merchants, gather feedback and once you're ready list it publicly on the app store.
