What's the best app for a prelaunch campaign with email capture on Shopify?

Hello, I found this campaign on the Shopify blog.

However, when I asked my web developer friend he said the code was outdated and it had security risks. He recommended that I find an app within Shopify that would allow for a relaunch campaign with email capture, and a referral system with rewards. I downloaded the one Shopify recommended in the article but it kept freezing and giving errors. Can you all recommend a campaign?
