App reviews, troubleshooting, and recommendations
Hey there, I'm having trouble getting my Shopify linked through the Google app to Merchant / Ad Manager / GTM and thus GA4.
My shop is https://shop.graff.golf/
My config tags work, and I'm able to see page views, scrolls, button clicks. But I'm not able to see any eCommerce events (such as add to cart)—and my eCommerce tag never fires on GTM.
I have the my Merchant account linked to GA4 / Ads Manager (though I'm not currently running ads). I set up my GTM using my GA4 code. Not sure what else to try (I've tried reinstalling the app, re-linking things, and I've re-setup the eCommerce tags in GTM about 10x now).
Any help would be awesome! Thanks!
According to Shopify, GA4 is setup using Google Channel, if it is missing events, you need to contact Shopify support to ask them to add it.
I currently don't use the Google Channel for my clients and manually setup all the events in GTM and send the info to Google Analytics 4. You could do the same for missing events.
Thanks—is there a tutorial somewhere for how to do the manual setup?
Hello @rowenfrazer,
This is Gina from flareAI app - get free sales from Google.
If you are not seeing eCommerce events such as add to cart in your Google Analytics 4 (GA4) account, it's possible that your Shopify store is not properly sending eCommerce data to GA4.
Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue:
1. Check that your Shopify store is properly linked to your Google Merchant Center account. Make sure that you have linked your Google Merchant Center account to your GA4 account as well.
2. Check that you have enabled Enhanced eCommerce tracking in your GA4 account. To do this, go to your GA4 property and navigate to "Data Streams" > "Enhanced eCommerce Settings" Make sure that "Enable Enhanced eCommerce Reporting" is turned on.
3. Make sure that your eCommerce tags are properly set up in Google Tag Manager (GTM). Double-check that you have configured your GTM tags to track eCommerce events such as "add to cart" and "purchase." Ensure that you have added the GA4 tracking ID to your GTM container.
4. Test your GTM tags by using the GTM preview mode. This will allow you to see if your tags are firing properly and if there are any errors or issues.
5. Verify that your eCommerce data is being sent from Shopify to GTM. To do this, use the Google Tag Assistant Chrome extension to check if your GTM tags are firing on the Shopify site.
6. Check that your Google Merchant Center account is properly configured. Make sure that your product data is up-to-date and that you have correctly set up your product feed.
If none of these steps help, you may need to reach out to Shopify support or Google support for further assistance.

Thanks Gina. The only step I'm unsure about is 6. In Google Merchant Center, I do have a Fix Suggeston: https://imgur.com/a/AAjfPqV
Do you think this might affect eCommerce tags not firing? Can I use 'no identifier'?
Just updating this one more time: Thought I would screen shot the tags that are firing in Preview. As you can see, it's detecting clicks—and there is 'cart' evidence within the data layer. But the events aren't being recorded properly. Just generic clicks vs. cart adds, view cart, etc. In other words, the eCommerce tags aren't working in that they aren't reporting from GTM to GA4 properly.
Just wanted to update this topic with a screen-record I did, that shows my GTM tag / trigger config, and the events list during Preview:

It does not show my GTM code being implemented into the Shopify theme.liquid / additional code, but I can promise you that I have checked the GTM code innumerable times.
Hey! I am experiencing the same issues. Were you able to find a solution? Thanks!
