Why are my product reviews vanishing after loading?

I've implemented the Shopify Product Reviews app and can see the form, however the reviews disappear after loading. 

When you load the page you can see the reviews for a split second, then they disappear and get replaced with "No reviews yet". The reviews are published and not pending moderation or anything.

notice how you can see the "2 reviews" showing for just a few frames before they disappear. 

Any ideas why this is happening?

The reviews started to show the next day, so perhaps this is an anti-spam thing? I have the settings set so that it should publish immediately but i suppose it must delay on the front end for a while.
