App reviews, troubleshooting, and recommendations
My catalog is synced with Facebook. However, lots of my products return the following error:
"The main image of this item cannot be displayed. Images must be in JPEG or PNG format, less than 8 MB and at least 500 x 500 pixels."
The thing is, my images DO meet these requirements. Has anyone experienced this?
Hello @thisiskian,
Good day! Gina from flareAI app helping Shopify merchants get $6Million+ in sales from Google Search, on autopilot.
I have listed some troubleshooting steps with your Shopify product images not displaying correctly on Facebook despite meeting the platform's requirements.
1. Ensure that your product images are indeed in either JPEG or PNG format and are less than 8 MB in size. You can use image editing software or online tools to verify the format and size of your images. Additionally, make sure that the dimensions of your images are at least 500 x 500 pixels.
2. Double-check that the URLs of your product images are correctly set in your Shopify store and are accessible. You can test this by opening the image URL directly in a web browser to ensure it loads without any issues. If the image URLs are incorrect or inaccessible, update them in your Shopify admin.
3. Sometimes, Facebook's cache may cause issues with displaying updated or corrected images. To resolve this, use Facebook's Sharing Debugger tool to scrape the URLs of your affected product pages. This forces Facebook to refresh its cache and retrieve the updated image information.
4. In some cases, the issue may be related to the specific images themselves. Try re-uploading the affected images to your Shopify store and ensure they meet the requirements mentioned earlier. Then, sync your catalog with Facebook again to see if the problem is resolved.
5. Shopify automatically processes and optimizes images for better performance. However, occasionally, this process can lead to errors. To verify if this is the case, you can disable Shopify's automatic image optimization by going to your Shopify admin, navigating to Settings > Files > Image optimization, and disabling the "Automatically optimize images" option. Afterward, re-upload the affected images and check if they display correctly on Facebook.
If the issue persists and you've exhausted all troubleshooting steps, it's recommended to contact Shopify's support team for further assistance. They can investigate the issue more closely and provide specific guidance based on your store's setup and configuration.

Have the same problem. I see all items in Facebook Commerce Manager, under the catalog, but only about 1/4 of them actually show up on FB or IG Shop. Looking closer, a lot of the items that say are synced have that same main image error, but they all meet the image guidelines. The FB integration overall is pretty frustrating.
I am having same exact issue. Is there a solution?
