Shopify CLI App - run shopify app dev without Vite?

Is it possible to use Shopify CLI for App without using Vite with the command:

shopify app dev

or is it compulsory?

Having a hard time using the CLI without this dependency I really don't need.

The app's shareable link seems to always fail with a 404 if Vite is not active.
