Two questions on app development pertaining to Shopify-managed Installation and Polaris

Question 1:

Is the "Shopify-managed app installation" method strictly for embedded apps, or can a non-embedded app use this install method, since it's Shopify-recommended?

Question 2: 

Can a non-Polaris based front end be used to create an embedded app? E.g, can an existing app front end be hosted within the iframe that hasn't been built in Polaris?

Would appreciate any help here as at a crossroads.

For the first question at least I can confirm that non-embedded apps should be able to use the Shopify-managed installation method, but since OAuth flows are likely used, this may involve setting up redirects and additional steps that could lead to a more complex installation process.
