add a checkbox for the newsletter using dawn theme

I tried really many times and in different ways adding a checkbox for ne newletter form inside the footer, I did add code to newsletter.liquid, I even modified both  newsletter.liquid and newsletter sections CSS , in any way something changed...I've added without problems code in the footer , in a similar way I added a checkbox in the contact form and at the checkout , the only thing I couldn't modify in any way is the newsletter form, in my country,  Italy , this is required by law, did anyone tried to do that? any suggestion ? can anyone tell my why this is so hard to add a checkbox in this form?

It's not difficult to modify the theme liquid, sometimes we need an expert to implement changes.
