Add/remove a product from cart with a checkbox

Hi!

How can we create a checkbox to add/remove an item from cart? I am not referring to updating product quantities or deleting a product from the cart, I mean an "add on" type item that you can choose to include at checkout. As an example, here's a video of that in action, taken from Tattly (tattly.com). They use Shopify Plus, and the add on is confetti:
