Add to cart button is greyed out when opening product page

I am having an issue with the add to cart button when the product page is opened. It is greyed out until you click through the variants and then it becomes available again. However, this means the product looks out of stock when a customer opens up the product page until they search through the variants. anyone able to assist with this?
