Adding Free Digital product without credit card

Hi,

I'm trying to find a way to let the customer download my free digital product by filling in their email address BUT without having to put in their credit card information at

the checkout and fill a billing address. Preferably, without having to go through the checkout at all. But if there is a way to bypass payment and billing information that would be really helpful. I am currently using the 'Shopify Digital Downloads App'.

Thanks for these details. It sounds like you want to provide a free digital product to your customers, while being able to bypass the checkout page. You also want to collect their email and you are currently using the Digital Downloads app on your store. Is that correct?

If it is, I’ve come up with a few options for you to consider:

1) If you still want to use your Digital Downloads app, you can create a product with the price point set to $0.00 and link it to your Digital Downloads app so that the customer can download your product. They will still have to go through the checkout process, but they won’t need to add a payment since it’s free. You would also need to create a free shipping option that the customer can select, so they won’t have to pay anything at all. Once they’ve completed their order, they would then be able to download the file on their computer. They will also receive an email with the link to download the file.

2) Another option is to collect emails via your homepage (please see the third heading in the linked help doc for more information) and how you set this up would depend on the theme that you are using. You could then set-up your emails to send a link to the file to the customer. This would in theory bypass the checkout process. 

What do you think of these options? I am also curious, why is it important to provide this digital product without payment to your customer?

I'm a new business and I'm trying to build my social media profile. I want to give away free cheat sheets directly from my linkpop page where, ideally, they'd only have to enter their name and email address. I don't mind if its a 'product download' item or an 'email subscription' field where the email contains the attachment. I've seen both of these options available on other products like Gumroad and linktree, but it's not possible on linkpop. Looking at my linkpop stats, I'm getting many people click on the free cheat 'digital download' product on my linkpop but I'm not getting any actual downloads. I can only conclude they get put off by needing to enter their bank details and billing address on a free product on a new company's product page. It appears fraudulent.

The other option I'm looking at is creating a free download 'extra' on 'Buy me a coffee' and inserting that link in linkpop. On this page, you don't have to enter bank details and they get an email and a product download link. So it solves the bank detail problem and works nicely for the customer. However, the frustration is that I can't automatically link the customers that download it on 'Buy me a coffee' to my shopify customer page so I can add them to my newsletters if they want it. I had a quick try with zapier and the fields I need it to upload to shopify don't map correctly.

I can't be the only one with this problem?

Is there any way you can either (i) include a basic email subscription app to linkpop where I can add attachments to the email (ii) remove the need for billing address/bank details on free products in shopify that feeds through to the linkpop checkout (iii) integrate 'buy me a coffee' into shopify?

you are not the only person with this problem. Did you ever have any luck? I'm trying to bypass the payment process as well, but add the email in exchange for the free download.
