Adding Multiple Images for Variants

Hello, 

i have the following issue. I have lots of products with different colors and shades and made variants for all of these products. My issue now is that all variant Images are shown at the same time. but i only want the images of one variant to show while the others are hidden. I heard that you can use alt tags to make this happen, but i also heard that it Hurts the Search Engine optimization. So i was wondering if there is any other way to display the Images without alt tags or any apps. Thanks a lot.
