Is there any way to make this section much smaller - as it is too big right now.

Maybe sit in the middle of the screen half the size?

Follow these Steps:

1) Go to Online Store
2) Edit Code
3) Find theme.liquid file

4) Add the following code in the bottom of the file above </body> tag

<style>
@media screen and (min-width: 768px) {
.background-secondary .featured-product {
    padding: 6rem 30rem !important;
}
}
</style>

RESULT:
