Shopify themes, liquid, logos, and UX
I have some important notes and customization that I've made to the General Shopify Checkout screen that I want my customers to see - specifically my Shipping details telling customers that I do not ship anything, it is all local pickup and the fee they see is actually a member fee and not a shipping fee.
However, because I have Shop Pay enabled when a customer who uses Shop Pay goes to checkout, it bypasses the general checkout page and takes them directly to Shop Pay checkout where it does NOT allow me to make the same customizations/explanations and it all just says "Shipping" - which confuses some people who are new to my store.
So my question to you all is, will I need to disable Shop Pay as an option **OR** is there a solution you can recommend? Can I "force" my customers to see the General Checkout page before they move on to Shop Pay, PayPal, etc...? I think a huge majority of my customers use Shop Pay so I don't want to make anything harder or clunkier but I also want them to see my notes about shipping....
Hello! Happy to help out here.
Luckily, disabling Shop Pay won't be necessary as there are a couple of ways you can still communicate what you need to, to your customers.
My first suggestions is to utilize the theme language editor to help change some of your wording and make the process make more sense to your customers. To do this, head to Online Store > Themes > Actions > Edit languages.
From here, you can use the search box to filter the wording your like to change, in this example I have used the word "shipping", now every line that contains that word will appear below and allow you to make changes to the wording that are more appropriate for your specific ordering process.
When putting "Shop Pay" into the filter, you are also given some options to make changes to the wording. I recommend finding where these lines are in your checkout process and seeing where the appropriate changes would benefit the issue. Let me know if I can help clarify any of that.
Another option would be the use of a Terms and Conditions checkbox, though because this is a third-party option, I can't guarantee it's compatible with Shop Pay. However, it does say it works with Dynamic checkouts and since it's free to use, it's worth installing on your store and seeing if it can work for you! What this means is that customers will have to read your checkout message and select the checkbox before proceeding to process their order.
Finally, you can try adding the details you need to communicate on both the product page and your storefront banner. Putting it in all possible places can help ensure it is seen by your customers to avoid any confusion.
Let me know what you think about those options! If they don't work, I'd love to continue to help troubleshoot this issue and find a solution for you.
