Can Shopify display unique photos for each product variant?

I find it very weird that Shopify combine all variant photos together. I am current using another shop platform, where when I click on a variant, it would show a new set of photos specifically for that variant.

Is there something like that for Shopify?

No, there is no way to set new set of images for each variant on shopify, meaning variant can only have 1 image.

All the images of the product are under one galery and each variant may have specific image assigned to it from the same product gallery.
So in the end you have galery of images on the products, meaning that product may have a lot of images and single image for each variant which has to exist as product image as well.
