Shopify themes, liquid, logos, and UX
Hey everyone!
This is my website:
Is it possible to change the order #s that get sent to customers? Our site is new so orders now are coming as order #1000, 1001, etc.. We want it to be more of a random number. Is that possible?
Thanks!!

Hi, @Mattinnovations.
While it's not possible to change the order number itself, you can customize the format of your order IDs by adding a prefix or suffix. The prefix or suffix can be any characters A-Z, 0-9, or symbols, and you can find the setting to do this by going to Settings > Store details in your Shopify admin. This page can walk you through the steps to do this as well.
Please let me know if you have any questions! I'm also happy to pass along any feedback you have about this.

We are all but done transferring out site from BigCommerce to Shopify, and the last remaining roadblock is this order numbering issue.
We make custom, reasonably complex products where the order number is the serial number printed on the product. On BigCommerce we're in the 45000's, and on Shopify we had to start over at 1000. That means that when we get to about 10000, we will have to start re-using serial numbers. Having two products with the same serial number is a horrible idea for purposes of customer support, re-ordering, etc.
Shopify tech support says it can't be done, which I don't believe, because it's just a matter of changing one number in the database. Adding meaningless text to the beginning or end of the displayed number is unacceptable, too. We've done that, so we can at least minimize the possibility of collision with old order numbers, but this is the only major negative we've found about Shopify. Everything else about our new site is going fabulously.
