Shopify themes, liquid, logos, and UX
I am trying to make new pages to navigate to such as "FAQ" and "T&C" and "Contact Us" etc...
When i make the page is has an option drop down to select "Theme Template" which only has two (2) options:
-Default page
-contact
If i leave it on Default page - All my pages become the same. For example: I edited the FAQ page in my online store editor and then i click on T&C in the navigation and it has all the same details and texts i wrote in the FAQ page.
It appears they are all defaulted to the same page data.
Can anyone help?
Hi Thanks for the quick reply! I have made the page and used default template. Then i went to navigation under menu and edited the menu item. I linked the menu item to the "FAQ" page i created and called it FAQ.
I did the same for T&C and linked to T&C.
Both show the same information....
Or maybe a better way to reply to your question is how do i properly create a page then?
Because the way i create the page it makes it defaulted the same as other pages.
I will go turn off the password temporarily... please give me 5 minutes.
I did that exact process to create the FAQ and T&C page and went to navigation and individually set them and they are still the same... hmm
Ok here is the password ohbowr
I took your advice and turned the password back on and gave you the password. But its okay i just removed the password please feel free to navigate it now.
I'm sorry maybe i am not fully understanding?
I went to the "Navigation" and changed the link to a different page and it did nothing.... still had the FAQ questions we made.
I dont know where to go from here
It wont let me send any screen shots on this platform.
I'm having the same issue, when I create templates, I can only assign them to a default page and contact. I was somehow able to get a featured page to work as my first page after the homepage. I then created a faq and it links back to the featured page content.
Hey Andrew, I did end up figuring it out. You have to go to your theme in the editing mode. In the very top there is a drop down and you can create a new page from there. This creates the page in your store and then you can assign it the page you created.
I dont know why they did it this way, there must be some coding reason.
Let me know if that helps or makes sense.
Hy, I have the same problem for a template that I'm working on. I don't have the option of edit code, could it be because I'm using a template I will have to buy later?
Hey there. I have the exact same issue as you had, but I don't get how to fix it. The dropdown menu, is that on the left side where you see the "layout", "templates", "sections", and so on?
I tried to create a new page under "templates", but it doesn't do anything, it just deletes the page when I exit the coding, even though i save it.
Hi just want to let you know how I figured this out. Hopefully it helps you. Had the same issue, and figured out you need to setup all your navigation, pages, theme templates, etc. in the LIVE Shopify theme FIRST. So like the default free theme Dawn. Setup all the pages and navigation there; you will be able to choose other options besides Default and Contact. After you setup everything there, all the other themes you are trying out will populate automatically with that navigation and pages you set up in the current Live theme.
Thank you! I had to click on pages and create template to customize a specific page, because if all pages are using default template anything affects them all. Create Template for each page in the top dropdown menu called "default template" when customizing the page
Thank you! That was exactly what I did, and the new templates appear when I open that dropdown in the editor. However, when I go to pages to assign the template I created, the only option is "default template" and the "contact us". How do I make it appear as options to assign as new template? Do I need special permissions for that?
I am trying to create a new Based theme but its the same: Default Page or Contact. When I choose Default Its the same pages, And when i choose Contact Its the same Page, Contact. So What I need to do?
Hey Cheeehoo, running into the same issue, I have the page setup, using the appropriate page theme, however its not showing in the top drop down menu only; default and contact, do I need to temporarily go live in order for the pages to show up/ be available? Very Surprised there isn't more information regarding this.

Hey there, were you able to figure out why creating a new page on the menu duplicate all the content for the other page. Still trying to fix this any help would be appreciated thanks!
I can show you how. It was very easy but weird.
Any chance I can show you by screenshare in Teams, Facebook or Discord?
I will only take 2-5 minutes 🙂
I meant that I can screenshare how to do it. Check your private messages 🙂
Hei David! Experiencing the same issue... any way you can show me too? 😋
can you show me?
Hello DuraPaw. I'm having the same issue. Can you help me? I still don't know how to add a template to my site. Maybe someone can help me? Thank You!
If your experiencing an issue when you only see on pages "Default page " or "contact", Firstly, you need to PUBLISH the theme and only then you will see other templates on the pages.
So you mean I have to edit the theme itself and then it will apply to my child theme?
