collection.sort_by property not available on product pages

Hi,

When on a collection page, the collection.sort_by property is not blank if the sort_by parameter is passed in the page URL, but when you then click on a product and load that product page, the collection.sort_by property is empty even though the sort_by parameter is passed to the product page in the URL. Is there any way to get the collection.sort_by value on a product page?

<edit>I should clarify that the sort_by parameter is passed from the collection page to the product page because I modified the links on the product cards to do so.</edit>
