Shopify themes, liquid, logos, and UX
Hi everyone, I hope someone is able to help me as I'm a little confused.
I believe that Shopify uses my Collection Title, Page Title, Product Title as H1 headers, and then when I write the actual page content I use H2 to write the first lead in sentence. I hope that makes sense.
What is confusing me is that I am then putting SEO headers above the H1 and H2. So am I doing the right thing for search engines? (in which I'm doing really badly and I didn't used to) If the SEO headers are above the H1 does that not make the SEO header an H1.
I hope this makes sense, I've designed my own site and have very basic skills. I'd appreciate any advice. My website is www.the-good-soap.co.uk

Hey @TheGoodSoap,
H1 Tag
Each page should have just one H1 tag, which serves as the main title. In Shopify, this is usually the Collection Title, Page Title, or Product Title. Think of it as the headline that tells visitors what the page is all about.
H2 and Other Headings
H2 tags break the content into main sections, while H3, H4, and so on, help organize the details within those sections. This structure not only makes the content easier to read but also helps search engines understand the layout.
SEO Titles
The SEO title, or title tag, is what shows up in search engine results and the browser tab. It's different from the on-page headings and is set in the page's metadata. It should be relevant to the content and include keywords, but it won't be visible on the page itself.
Best Practices
- Use a single H1 tag per page.
- Use H2 and lower-level headings to create a clear structure.
- Set unique SEO title tags for each page, focusing on relevance and keywords without overstuffing.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Don't use multiple H1 tags on a single page; it confuses search engines.
- Make sure SEO titles are unique and correctly set in the metadata.
- Keep the content layout clean and organized to improve usability and SEO.

Thank you so much, that has fully answered my question. I think my website must be confusing the search engines as I have visible SEO headings on my collection pages, as well as the H1 tag. So I assume that to make more progress in the search engines I need to remove the visible SEO headings and just have those in my meta data? I really appreciate your help. The problem is I've been working with an SEO company who have added the visible SEO titles above the H1 and I didn't think it was correct, so you've just confirmed this for me. Thank you again
