Shopify themes, liquid, logos, and UX
Hi all,
I am trying to find an effective way of creating a landing page that will become the first page you see when coming to our store website. It will present the user with 2 options, the first will be a link to our current Shopify store (https://www.in-excess.com/), so the customer can buy online. The second link would be to a separate selection of pages that display our physical retail stores and do not have the Shopify header/footer, as the customer would not be able to purchase here, they are just informational pages telling them about our physical stores and restaurants for example.
Is there a reasonably straight forward way of doing this, or will I have to sit Shopify on a separate domain behind the new home page?
Many thanks
Terry
hi @Rillix
You can achieve this without setting up a separate domain by creating a custom landing page within Shopify. Here’s a straightforward approach:
Option 1: Using a Custom Shopify Page (Best Approach)
Create a new Shopify page and set it as the homepage.
Use Liquid and custom CSS to design a simple layout with two buttons:
One linking to your Shopify store (https://www.in-excess.com/).
One linking to your informational pages about physical stores/restaurants.
Use custom page templates to ensure the informational pages do not include the Shopify header/footer.
Option 2: Use Shopify’s Theme Customization
Many Shopify themes allow custom homepage sections where you can add buttons and text.
You can create a separate template for informational pages and exclude the Shopify navigation.
Option 3: Use a Landing Page Builder App
Apps like PageFly or Shogun allow drag-and-drop page building and full control over design and links.

Thanks for the help with this one so far.
I have created some pages but am unsure how I actually set the homepage without redirecting the url, or loading the landing page via the theme.liquid.

I can get the landing page to load when you visit https://www.in-excess.com/ but then I can't get back into the shop, as it always goes back to the landing page.
Hi @Rillix
You can achieve this within Shopify without needing a separate domain. Here’s a straightforward way to do it:
Create a Custom Landing Page in Shopify – Use Shopify’s theme editor (or a page builder app like PageFly or Shogun) to design a simple homepage with two prominent buttons:
“Shop Online” → Links to your Shopify store.
“Visit Our Locations” → Links to your informational pages.
Remove Shopify Header/Footer on Store Info Pages –
Use a custom page template in your theme to hide the header/footer for these pages.
If comfortable with Liquid code, modify page.liquid to conditionally hide elements based on page type.
Redirect Homepage Visitors (Optional) – If you want a splash page effect, you can create a standalone HTML page and set up a redirect using Shopify’s theme code or JavaScript.
