Shopify themes, liquid, logos, and UX
I'm looking for advice on how I can add a product option to a product but not have it appear as a variant.
Context: I sell confectionery by weight in 100g increments (variant). 100g, 200g, 300g etc all the way through to 2kg.
Whatever the customer orders is usually mixed and packed together in a single bag. I am wanting to offer the option of having a product packed in its own separate bag.
I am wanting to add a simple check box product option on each product page that would say "Pack in a separate bag? (+$0.15)". If the customer selects this, the product price increases $0.15 and that line item gets marked as "Separate Bag".
I do not want to try and add this as a proper variant on the Shopify product page. It would require too much work to push to all 500+ SKUs and there would be too much upkeep involved when we change prices of products.
I've tried 3rd party apps. They handle the front end perfectly but they then destroy the product listing by creating extra variants etc that are visible to the customers. All of it looks messy.
Is there any simple way I can do the above that doesn't then turn into 50000 variants?
We are using Shopify Plus if that is of any help?
Hi @MerrittWatson , Yes you can achieve this using attribute if every product will have same options. Otherwise it would be another solution to workout.

Hey Deep,
Could this be displayed only on products that have a certain tag?
Would this be a product attribute or a cart attribute?
