Customization work arounds on the home page

Customizations on the home page are very limited in terms of size and placement of type. and don't even get me started on applying colors to different sections, which seems to be by some kind of arcane trial and error.

Is there any reason why its a bad idea to set the title and subtitle on a slide image in photoshop?
