Dawn Force AJAX Cart Refresh/Access WebComponent methods?

I'm using a theme built off of dawn and also using the cart drawer from this Dawn.

How can I access the CartDrawer webcomponent functions such as renderContents() function?

Currently, I am updating the cart using ajax but the quantity updates are not shown until the page is refreshed. I don't want to force the page to reload as this is an ugly/bad UX solution so how can I access the functions from the cartdrawer in order to update its contents based on the new totals?
