Dawn Theme 11.0.0: How can I only display variant images in the thumbnail?

Hello,

I have noticed that Dawn theme shows all images in the thumbnail. This is of course confusing, since I have many variants , each will have max 3 Images.

I want to only display images of the selected variant. 

Can someone tell me where in the code I can modify that? (filename, line number, modification)
