Dawn Theme - 404 broken CSS on live site, working in theme editor

Hello,

As the title says, my website's 404 is totally broken on the live site, but when I preview it in the theme editor it looks exactly like it should.

The footer/header has broken and had all the links stripped out of it along with CSS removed, when I view it in the theme editor it is just fine, what could be the problem of this? I have not changed the Dawn Theme's 404 liquid or js so unsure if it's a bug out of the box?

Hey @ConnorHEMK,

Welcome to the Shopify Community!

Without being able to see your store and theme editor, it's difficult for me to establish exactly what is happening. If you could please share your store URL, I will be able to take a much closer look. Also, have you tried installing a fresh version of the Dawn Theme to see if the issue persists?

I'd also be curious to know if we can isolate what you're seeing to your device or browser. Would you mind testing a few things for me?

  • Clear your cache and cookies - When you use a browser, like Chrome, it saves some information from websites in its cache and cookies. Clearing them fixes certain problems, like loading or formatting issues on sites.

  • Ensure your browser is up to date.

  • Try an Incognito window.

  • Try another browser (e.g. Safari).

  • Try completing the same steps on your phone, using data rather than WiFi.

Looking forward to hearing how that goes!

@Moira

Thanks for coming back to me, here is an example page -

https://www.enhancemykitchen.co.uk/asdkasdp

I've cleared cache and tested this on 2 different computers/mobile. As said when I look at the theme drag and drop customizer it shows like the rest of the website, when I view the 404 page live it is like the json or css/liquid is missing.

Also tried using incognito and another browser.

I've also used a fresh dawn theme and it still persists.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.

Kind Regards,
Connor

Same thing happening to us...

Not rendering the css, correct header, or footer.

The same thing is happening on my Dawn site. The header menu doesn't appear, colors are loading wrong, and the footer is rendering wrong.

Go to https://the-fourth-place.myshopify.com/asdf to see it.

The appearance is identical in Chrome (logged in), Chrome Incognito window, and Safari.

I wanted to make sure you saw my post above with clear details.

@Moira Any update?

Multiple people are replying with the same thing, sounds like a bug from the Dawn Theme that the developers didn't see when creating it.

Thank you all for providing detailed examples of what you are seeing with your versions of the Dawn Theme. Seeing as this has affected multiple stores, I have reached out to the theme developers for some further insight so we can get to the bottom of this! I will update you all as soon as I hear back.

Thank you for your patience in the meantime,

I have just been in contact with the theme developers who have confirmed that this 404 issue is indeed a bug within the Dawn Theme. Fortunately, our storefront team is aware of this and they are working to get it fixed as soon as possible.

You are always welcome to submit a ticket through our support channel and then the team can let you know when it's resolved. While we’re not able to provide account-specific support via the Shopify Community at this time, we’d be happy to continue assisting you through live chat, email, or callback.
