DISCOUNT MARKDOWN FAIL WITH DISCOUNT CODE

DISCOUNT MARKDOWN FAIL WITH DISCOUNT CODE

Hi there

We are having issues where we have a discount code that Is overlapping out markdown price. We manually edited the markdown price for some sale products, but now when you add a discount code of say 10% it applies the 10% to the SALE price but not original price. Is there a way around this? As we use some codes for influencers but would like them to benefit from 10% of the original product price NOT sale price.

Thank you

@manekakknowle , I can suggest you try our app Discount Bot to allow excluding items on sale from discounts (users can still get the markdown price on those items, but not the 20% discount). On top of this, you can also import existing bulk coupon codes to the discounts you create so you manage it all from one location:

Hi Manekaknowle,

I strongly recommend against using the "compare-at-price" ("markdown price") as a discount. Though it is the easiest way to display price strikethroughs on product pages, it is not a discount. The "compare-at-price" is more like a "manufacturer-suggested retail price" for display purposes only rather than actual sales.

In Shopify, discounts always apply to the "price" and never to the "compare-at-price." This is why your customers are seemingly receiving a double discount on top of the existing markdown.

Instead of using the "compare-at-price" method for discounts, I recommend using actual automatic discounts. You can then use the "Combinations" settings to prevent them from combining with other product discounts.

To do this, you can try our app, Regios Automatic Discounts (4.9 stars, Built for Shopify).

You can:

  • Apply automatic discounts to specific products
  • Display strikethrough prices (just like compare-at-price markdowns) on product pages, collection pages, cart, checkout, and the home page
  • Easily exclude items that are already marked down from receiving further discounts

Here's a screenshot of how you could set up different discounts for different products:

Alternatively, if you're okay with using the compare-at-price for specific products, you can instead create your other discount codes in our app and then use the "How to handle items already on sale > Don't apply discount to items already on sale" option to prevent a double discount on your already-marked-down items:

If you have any questions about this, just reply, and I'll be happy to help.

Best,
