Display automatic discount sale pricing on products page

I spoke to someone at Shopify yesterday about this issue, and the best they could offer was a third party app to put a flag on the product page signifying a sale.

This IS a sale platform, right? I created a Shopify website to SELL PRODUCTS and sometimes RUN A SALE. Why, if I create an automatic sale, does the sale pricing not show up on my product page for the item I have selected for sale? How does that help my shopper find the items that are on sale easily? It's extremely frustrating to run an automatic sale and then tell people they have to add to cart to see if it's actually on sale or not. Etsy and hundreds of other websites can do this, why not Shopify? It seems like basic functionality to me. I shouldn't have to bulk edit each product with a strikeout price to have it show up as a sale, nor should I have to pay a third-party app to have to do it for me. When will Shopify fix this issue? It took forever for Shopify to realize that their gift card options weren't working for buyers. Shopify, fix this issue. Your sellers are begging for it in several threads!

Hi @greensled 👋 Shopify is an ecommerce platform , in being that it has to match the least common denominator for MILLIONS of it's merchants not what other platforms may or may not do.

Keeping that in mind will cause less frustration from false expectations of what features are presumed to be "basic" out of the box.

If something is missing there are apis and routes available for bespoke solutions and custom needs that go beyond the common needs.

Who knows when platform Y, will add feature X some people need.

Meanwhile on shopify plenty of tools are available today to get an actual outcome instead of wishing.

Currently merchants have to specifically opt-in products with tags, etc to trigger theme behaviors.

Automatic discounts and the online sales channel theme are separate systems with only some specific cross overs.

Automatic discounts in the online sales channel themes have a limitation that automatic discounts are not calculated UNTIL after an item is in the cart.

So the discount properties or discounted price data does not exist prior to this for use in themes.

So any display of static "sale" info, or price adjustments have to be specifically setup or customized.

Customizing of themes to work with things like product tags, metafields etc this is very common topic with plenty of approaches.

I totally understand your frustration. It does seem like a no-brainer that sale prices should automatically show on product pages, especially if you're coming from a platform like Etsy.

Shopify's setup is a bit different since each store is its own website with a unique theme, so automatic discounts don't display on product pages by default. This isn't built into Shopify's Liquid language either, which makes it challenging for themes to handle.
