Shopify themes, liquid, logos, and UX
I have four collections. Let's call them :
Collection 1
Collection 2
Collection A
Collection B
Collection 1 & 2 have share products pages with A & B. This has created 100s of duplicate titles and content on my store.
I understand for SEO purposes I need to create an 'IF' statement and insert it into my head in theme.liquid but do not want to get it wrong.
Does anyone have an example they could share that would make the storename.com/products/product_name the canonical URL rather than storename.com/collection-name/products/product-name?
Hi,
Without seeing the code is hard to tell.
The cannonical URL is generated by Shopify and will always be in this format:
your-store.com/products/some-product-name
Even if that product is added to multiple collections, the cannonical URL will be the same.
Please see: https://www.shopify.com/partners/blog/canonical-urls
Hi Mircea,
I think it is very common that products occur in multiple collections.
As I understand from your response, that no matter how many collections a product may be in, they are all pointing to the SAME product stored in Shopify.
Meaning, there are NOT duplicate title tags created.
Is this correct?
Thanks!
