Shopify themes, liquid, logos, and UX
Hi there,
I have some simple content on a page under pages. All fine.
I bought a theme and I have selected a template for this particular page. All great.
But how do I edit the page content and place within the new sections? I assumed if I went back to said page, it would reload and show the sections and I could then edit the page?
I can edit the template under the theme but I don't want to edit the template. I want to edit the page content within the template (as the template will be used for multiple pages).
I must be missing something really simple here, but not sure what!
Thanks

Yes, when you can create a new template based on another template you created. On the center dropdown inside the customizer, click on Pages -> Create Template and pick the template you want the new one to be based off. And voila!
Hi @sophiecquk ,
Welcome to the Shopify forums!
The Page Content which is available on the Page Edit in the Shopify dashboard. This is adjustable only there, and on the customizer (when customizing the template) it shows as Page Content on the left sidebar. This will not allow you to add sections visually like you think.
I would recommend you create a template based on the template you created and map it only to that page. If your store is 2.0 enabled, this makes the most sense.

Thanks for the response.
So what you are saying is that they aren't really templates? As when I alter the template with content, it will alter it for all pages assigned to that? So you can only technically have one page assigned to one template (thus not making it a template).
And yes, it is 2.0 enabled. Thanks
The Page Content box is not a template, it just a section where content can go.
Once you create a visual template in customizer and add sections, you can then assign an unlimited amount of pages to that template, however if each page is different (which it usually is) then for each page, a separate template should be created and you can then reuse any theme sections you have at hand to build.
They are templates in a sense that you can map elements dynamically to certain sections, however, one unique page requires one unique template.
Understood.
Is there an easy way to duplicate templates? I have a number of services where the page template I want to be the same visually but the content will be different.

Thanks for taking the time to explain everything. Not a logical way of doing things (as future changes to one template will actually need to be made to many) but I can work round that! Thanks
