Express theme footer line-breaks

Hey guys,

I'm not sure how to solve this, probably it's not that hard.

If I add some text to the standard elements in the footer section the line breaks are way too big, but the text area doesn't allow custom css/html of course. If I hit the return button on my keyboard it will add <p> instead of <br> although in the preview here they got it right. How can I fix this? See the issue below:
