Free countdown timer bar code install help?

I'm trying to avoid overloading my store with too many apps, so I found the code and instructions below from: https://appstore.mageworx.com/blog/no-app-required-boost-sales-by-adding-announcement-countdown-time...

Problem is, it's not working correctly in the Canopy theme! Tried adding a Comment at the above link but their site doesn't look like they are accepting comments any more.

Any way, the good news - I was able to show the script settings in the Customize area, the bad news - but it doesn't show on my site after activating either Announcements or Timer or Both.

Has any body got this working or has any advice to get it working?

Here's a snippet where I put your code in theme.liquid

*I had to rename the "announcement-bar" under Sections to "timer-bar", because there was already a section called "announcement-bar".
